The intersection among gender, energy transition, and climate change governance is multifaceted. An interesting still complex area of study, lacking appropriate data for a thorough assessment, is gaining lately the growing attention of society, academia and policymakers. Gender considerations in the energy transition process and the design of climate policies have evolved as core elements of the energy matrix’s portfolio, targeting mainly the following issues:

  • The direct role of gender equality in the energy transition, especially related to the role of women in clean energy research and the workforce transformation (public and private sector).

  • The relationship between gender and energy consumption patterns to address issues such as energy poverty at the household level and emissions from the transport sector.

  • The disproportional impacts of climate change on the female population, especially in the Global South, and the gender mainstreaming in climate change governance (access to the decision-making process, funding, capacity-building, etc.).

  • The design of inclusive energy and climate policies based on gender-disaggregated data and gender action plans.

Joined forces with 75inQ, a centre of expertise, based in the Netherlands, that accelerates the energy transition by bringing gender balance to the table.

I have co-authored an exploratory study discussing Climate Change & Gender, focusing into the effects of climate change and adaptation on gender equality in the Netherlands and Europe and providing policy analysis, recommendations and a lexicon of key terms. The report has been published by 75inQ and will advice the Dutch delegates to the 66th UN Commission on the Status of the Women that has as a priority theme achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes.

Sharing my views on gender mainstreaming and the role of women as agents of change in energy transition and climate action with the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP)

Participated as a panelist in the WEgate Summit 2021 that focused on how female entrepreneurs can benefit from green and digital transformation.

Talking about my entrepreneurial journey, the obstacles I had to overcome, what the "matrix" means, and my gender perspective on climate governance.

Since 2018, I have volunteered as Research Assistant for the NGO ActionAid Netherlands, a women's rights organization that fights for a sustainable and gender-equal world. I

have been actively involved in their project on Just Transition with a focus on women's rights in supply chains (raw materials extraction for renewable technologies, in Sub-Saharan Africa).
