Innovation is a prerequisite for an effective energy transition and impactful climate action. Emerging in different types, innovation encompasses technological, financial, and societal aspects. The matrix has been studying innovation in the areas of energy and climate policies thoroughly. Building upon the experience gained in the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and the Strategic Energy Technologies Plan (SET-Plan), which assists the coordination of national research and innovation (R&I) activities in developing low-carbon energy in Europe, I have developed solid expertise related to the decarbonization and digitalization of the energy sector and the subsequent socio-technical transitions taking place at an individual (consumption patterns, energy citizenship), household (smart homes, energy poverty alleviation) and local level (community energy). Through projects, such as my collaboration with the Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), and training, I have expanded my knowledge in innovative solutions to combat and adapt to climate change such as sustainable agriculture, water management, circular economy models.
